Hattiesburg, MS-The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the results Wednesday night of the Pre-Season Basketball polls as selected by the league's coaches, and the Belhaven men's and women's basketball teams were both picked 6th with 29 and 37 points respectively.
On the men's side, Tougaloo took the top spot with 69 points and four first place votes followed by LSU-Shreveport with 69 points and one first place vote. Loyola was chosen third with 64 points. Loyola was voted to finish first on the women's side with 77 points and seven first place votes while Xavier garnered 71 total points for second and William Carey University checked in at number three with 65 points.
The Belhaven men's basketball team finished the 2008-09 season with an overall record of 18-13 and made it to the semi-finals of the GCAC tournament. The Belhaven women also had a strong 2008-09 campaign with an overall mark of 17-14.
