Jonny Ellis enters his eighth season on the Belhaven Women’s Soccer coaching staff and sixth as the program’s Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach, playing a central role in the most successful era in program history.
Ellis was promoted to top assistant prior to the 2020–21 season and has been instrumental in Belhaven’s rise to consistent conference contention and championship success. Most notably, the 2025 season marked a historic milestone for the Blazers, as the program captured its first Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Championship and earned an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time in school history.
Over the past three seasons, Ellis has helped the Blazers to establish themselves as one of the CCS’s most consistent programs, advancing to the semifinal or final of the conference tournament in each campaign. Belhaven also posted back-to-back 13-win seasons in 2023 and 2024, the most wins across a two-year stretch since 2001–02, before surpassing that success with a 14-win championship season in 2025.
Ellis has played a key role in both recruiting and player development. During his tenure, Belhaven have signed and developed multiple high-impact recruiting classes that helped elevate the program’s competitive standard. Ellis has helped coach more than 30 All-Conference selections across the CCS and American Southwest Conference, along with two United Soccer Coaches All-Region honorees: Kaci Craft (2023) and Emma Antonoplos (2024). His recruiting footprint has directly contributed to the program’s depth, retention, and sustained success.
Prior to his current role, Ellis spent two seasons as a Graduate Assistant for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Belhaven, gaining experience across all facets of collegiate soccer operations. He has also served as the New England Assistant Regional Director for YESsoccer and as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of Bridgeport (Conn.) women’s program. His coaching background includes extensive experience at the club and premier levels in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut.
Originally from Bristol, England, Ellis holds a UEFA C License, a USSF C License, and a Level 1 Futsal certification. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Coaching and Physical Education from the University of St Mark & St John (Plymouth, UK) and completed his Master of Science in Leadership at Belhaven University in May 2020.
Ellis resides in Brandon, Mississippi with his wife, Beth, and their son, Finley.
