Rusty Cram enters his second season as the Head Coach of the Blazers women's basketball program. Cram brings a wealth of coaching experience to Belhaven after spending 21 seasons at NCAA Division I Georgia Southern, with 16 of those seasons as the head coach. Cram began his career in Statesboro in 1990 as an assistant coach.
Cram is the all time wins leader and longest tenured head coach in Georgia Southern history, compiling an overall record of 239-230. Cram guided the Lady Eagles to two Southern Conference regular season titles and was named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year twice during his career. Cram notched eight 15 win seasons, including two 20 win campaigns, and was part of the only two NCAA trips in program history as an assistant in 1993 and 1994.
“I'm extremely excited that Rusty is a part of our Athletics staff,” said Belhaven Director of Athletics Scott Little. “Our Women's Basketball team will enjoy his leadership and will immediately benefit from his expertise and experience. He is a demonstrated winner as he has lead teams both academically and athletically, and he's the right person to lead our team as they compete for conference and national championships in the years ahead.”
Prior to his time at Georgia Southern, Cram was a head coach for eight seasons at the high school level in Alabama and Louisiana. He was the head boys coach at Evangel Christian Academy in Mobile, AL and led them to the 1981 State Title before heading to Sam Crow Academy in Oak Grove, LA where he was both the boys and girls head coach. Cram guided the girl's team to the state finals in 1982 and 1983, capturing the title in 1983. Following the 1983 season, Cram moved on to Cedar Creek High School in Ruston, LA. Cram amassed a record of 211-81 and captured two State Championships as a high school head coach.
“I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to be in the Belhaven University family,” says Cram. The administration and staff made our decision to become Blazers a perfect fit.”
