Tim Byrnes enters his second season as the Associate Head Coach after coming to Belhaven from Edwardsville Illinois with his wife and three children.
Byrnes helped guide the Blazers to an NAIA National Championship in 2012, the second title in program history. As the Associate Head Coach of the Men’s Soccer Program, Byrnes is also the Head Coach of the Belhaven Reserve Team and the First Assistant for the Men’s First Team.
Byrnes grew up in Metro United Football Club Program located in the Metro East St. Louis area. During his time there, the club won many titles including the State Cup. He also participated in the Olympic Development Program which reinforced his skill and leadership abilities. Byrnes went on the play at Edwardsville High School as the team captain and led his team toward success at the State level.
During his high school career, Byrnes suffered a career altering knee injury, but was able to recover to complete his senior year and then to go into his collegiate career.
Byrnes began at Lindenwood University for one year before moving to Greenville College to complete his college career. Byrnes was a Team Captain at Greenville and following his three years at Greenville left with Regional Awards. During his junior year, Tim was once again plagued with another knee injury that would ultimately end his career early. Byrnes was one of Coach McMahon’s initial recruits that developed Greenville Men’s Soccer into a nationally ranked program.
Tim earned his Bachelor Degree from Greenville College in Environmental Biology and is looking forward to pursuing a graduate degree in the near future.
“I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to work with Coach McMahon again and look forward to working for such an institution as Belhaven University,” said Byrnes.
