Matt Collins, a native of Jackson, MS, attended Jackson Prep High School and is a graduate of Delta State University. While at Prep, Collins lettered on the golf team starting in 8th grade and we won the Overall State AAA Championship in 1997.
While at DSU, his career tournament best was a 73 at the Derrell Foreman Invitational in 2000 in Cleveland. During his high school and college years Collins played in many amateur tournaments around the state including qualifying for four consecutive MS State Amateur Championships. His latest achievement was winning the Individual Match Play Championship at the Country Club of Jackson in 2007. Collins is currently a 3 handicap and is beginning the process of becoming a certified teaching professional. He has completed the 1st phase of 3 with the United States Golf Teaching Federation and is now classified as a Level I Affiliate Member.
"I am very excited to be a part of the Belhaven Golf program," says Collins. "I feel we have a good core of talent and look forward to helping this team achieve great things in the NAIA."
Collins is married to the former Amberly Wilson of Richland, MS and currently resides in Flowood, MS. They have a son named Wilson Franklin Collins who was born in November of 2008.
