Scott Preston comes to Belhaven as one of the most travelled coaches on the staff for the Blazers in 2014. Preston brings a highly innovative offensive mind that features high-powered offenses and dynamic QB/WR combinations developed with over 30 years of coaching at various levels from Youth to College to the European Pro Leagues.
Preston comes to Belhaven after a year at Tiffin University, working under head coach Gary Goff with a focus on the offensive line for the Dragons. Prior to his stint in Ohio, Preston spent a year as the head coach for the Oulu Northern Lights in Oulu, Finland.
From 2007-10, Preston served as the Offensive Coordinator for the Arkansas Tech Wonderboys. During his time in Russellville, Preston was named the 2009 National Division II Coordinator of the Year after coaching back-to-back Harlon Hill Finalists, while also coaching the AFCA All-American at Quarterback and the Gulf South Offensive Player of the Year. Two wide receivers were also ranked in the top 10 nationally in 2009 after Preston coordinated one of the most prolific offensive years in Arkansas Tech and GSC history. Arkansas Tech finished 2009 first nationally in all divisions of the NCAA in 3rd Down Conversions (59.7 %), while also ranking second nationally in total offense (527.4 ypg), third nationally in passing offense (386.2 ypg) and fifth nationally in scoring offense (40.8 ppg). Arkansas Tech broke 33 school records and six GSC records on offense that season.
Prior to his stint at ATU, Preston spent five seasons (2000-2004) at Illinois State University as the Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach. In 1998-1999, Preston coach at Murray State University as the Offensive Coordinaltor, while also working with the quarterbacks and wide receivers, including the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Preston also had stints as offensive coordinator and passing game coordinator at Ventura College, Georgia Military College, and Valdosta State University from 1995-97. The former quarterback was also at Valdosta State under Hal Mumme in 1993-94, as the tight ends and running back coach.
Splitting his time in Valdosta, Ga., Preston also served as the head coach of the Helsinki Roosters. While in the capital of Finland, Preston led the Roosters to a National Championship and was named the Maple League Coach of the Year after going 11-1 during the 1995 season.
Preston started his coaching career in 1985, coaching three seasons at Palo Alto High School as the offensive coordinator. After on season in 1988 as an assistant coach at Mountain View High, Preston returned to Palo Alto as the head coach for two seasons. He used that step as a spring board into the college ranks where he spent two seasons as the Passing Game Coordinator for San Francisco State University.
A 1994 graduate of Valdosta State University in General Studies with a concentration in Radio and TV, Preston also owns and operates his website www.tdsbyair.com, a football consultation site.
