Roy Thompson is entering his first year as the Special Teams Coordinator / Defensive Line Coach at Belhaven University. Roy came to Belhaven from NCAA DII Ouachita Baptist University where he served as the Defensive Front Game Coordinator and linebacker coach during the 2012 season. He also served as the Defensive Line coach from 2009-2011. He helped lead the program to the 2011 Great American Conference Championship. In his time as defensive line coach, his unit lead the conference in sacks and rushing defense, finishing 9th in the nation in that category. During his time at OBU, they recorded four consecutive winning seasons and were ranked in the top 25 in each season, reaching as high as #9 during the 2012 season.
Thompson is no stranger to Belhaven, he was a Team Captain, two year starter and four year letterman from 2002-2006. He also served as the Defensive Line coach from 2007-2009 where his unit led the Mid-South Conference in sacks and finished in the top 10 in the nation in sacks as well.
Thompson began his coaching career at Highland Community College, KS in 2006, serving as the Recruiting Coordinator and Defensive Line coach, His defensive line unit led the Jayhawk conference in sacks that included the individual conference leader in sacks .
Thompson holds a Masters of Education from Belhaven University as well as a B.S. in Sports Administration. He is married to Julia Rodriguez Thompson of Zapata, TX; the couple has two daughters Jadyn (3), and London (3months)
