Josh Creech is in his fourth season as the Blazers' Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach. Creech joined the Belhaven staff in the spring of 2014, coming to Jackson with Hal Mumme.

In 2014, Creech’s pass defense ranked 15th in the NAIA, allowing just 166.4 yards per game. Creech’s 3-3-5 defense also ranked 19th in the NAIA in total sacks with 28 on the season. The Blazers defense also kept opponents to just a 33.8 percent conversion rate on third downs, ranking 30th in the NAIA. The Green and Gold also set a school record in total tackles that season, recording 771.

During his time with Belhaven, six members of the Blazers defense have earned All-NCCAA recognition and three have received Mid-South All-Conference honors.

Creech is in his second stint on Mumme’s staff after spending two seasons under Mumme at McMurry in 2011 and 2012. Creech join the War Hawks football staff as an assistant offensive line coach and video coordinator for the 2011 season and also spent time working with the long snappers. In 2012, Creech moved to the defensive side of the ball where he served as the Linebackers Coach while still assisting with long snappers and returners in the special teams game.

Following Mumme’s departure from McMurry to Southern Methodist University, Creech remained at McMurry for the 2013 season where he was again elevated in the coaching staff under Mason Miller to the Assistant Head Coach, while working with the Linebackers and assisting with Defensive Coordinator Kendall Roberson.

Prior to joining Mumme’s staff at McMurry, Creech coached at the University of New Haven where he was the assistant linebackers coach and helped with video as a graduate assistant. New Haven won the North East-10 Conference Championship in Creech’s only season on staff.

Creech had the privilege to learn the 3-3-5 defense from Joe Lee Dunn, one of the masterminds behind its creation and while at McMurry the defense produced the best two-year span in recent school history by going 9-3 in back to back seasons and winning the Heart of Texas Bowl. Creech had an All-American linebacker in Jonathan Blair and the linebackers unit for McMurry produced two of the top three tacklers on the team.

Creech comes from a family of coaches; his father, Jim Creech, has been a head coach since 1982 at Ft. Bend Dulles High School in the Houston area. Creech played for his father, and graduated from Dulles in 2003. Jim Creech was recently inducted into the Houston High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor. Josh’s grandfather, Doyle Parker, coached football in Texas high schools and colleges for over 40 years and ended his career at Texas Tech where he coached under legend Spike Dykes. Parker was recently elected into the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor. Josh’s step-father Mike Guerrero, has coached for more than 25 years, mainly in Colorado and New Mexico.

Creech received his Bachelor’s Degree from Sam Houston State University in criminal justice and then went on to earn his Master’s Degree in National Security from the University of New Haven in 2010.

In June 2015, Creech married the former Emily Germany, Director of Football Operations for the Blazers. The couple resides in Jackson with their daughter Adelaide.Â
