Jonathan Johnson

  • Title
    Graduate Assistant Coach - Football

The Belhaven football program and Head Coach Joe Thrasher are pleased to announce former Blazer Jonathan Johnson as a graduate assistant for the team this fall. Johnson, a product of Ocean Springs High School, played on both sides of the ball during his college career and will assist with tight ends and offensive linemen.

"I was excited when I was offered the GA position," Johnson said. "I love this school, and {Head} Coach {Joe} Thrasher has given me the opportunity to pursue my dream of coaching football."

A Dennis Roland award winner at center during his freshman year, Johnson started throughout 2011 at defensive end before suffering a career-ending spine injury. Thrasher and his staff welcomed him with open arms as a student assistant in 2012, and Johnson immediately impressed his coworkers.

"Jonathan is a tremendous asset to our program" offensive coordinator Craig Bowman said. "He brings a strong knowledge of the game, an incredible work ethic, and a great set of values."

JJ, as his fellow coaches call him, hopes to take advantage of the situation and jumpstart his career.

"God really opened the door and gave me the opportunity to come to Belhaven," Johnson said. "I always knew I wanted to be here, and I look forward to what the future holds for me here."
