Clay Smith begins his 11th season as Assistant Head Baseball Coach for the Blazers. In 2012, Smith oversaw a Blazer pitching staff that posted 391 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.76.
“We are excited about the upcoming year,” said Smith. “We have worked hard in the off-season to recruit the type of players that will make an impact for Blazer Baseball, and have assembled a team that will once again compete for the SSAC title.”
Prior to arriving at Belhaven, Coach Smith served as an assistant baseball coach at the University of Southern Mississippi from 2000-2002. He also served as a student assistant for the USM baseball program for two seasons.
A native of Wesson, Mississippi, Coach Smith played catcher for the Copiah-Lincoln Community College baseball program for two seasons, lettering both years. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from USM in 1999 and his Master’s degree in Sports Administration from USM in 2000.
