The Belhaven Department of Athletics and the baseball program are pleased to announce Andrew Gipson as the team's new assistant coach. Gipson, who is also a former player under Head Coach Hill Denson, spent the 2013 season as a graduate assistant and 2012 as a student assistant for the club.
“I would like to thank our administration and Coach Denson for giving me this special opportunity,” said Gipson. I have some big shoes to fill, but I'm honored and excited for the opportunity to help carry on the tradition of hard work and excellence that we have established over the years. Every year, our goal is to recruit and develop the type of players that can lead us to a national championship and that our university, community, and fans can be proud of.”
Gipson, a native of Oneonta, Alabama, enters his third year in a coaching capacity after having played four seasons with the Blazers from 2008-2011. He was part of three Conference championships, four NAIA Regional/Opening Round tournaments, and one NAIA World Series appearance during his playing career.
“Andrew is an outstanding young coach and I'm excited to have him as our assistant coach,” said Denson. “He has done a tremendous job as a graduate assistant, student assistant and player, and I'm confident he'll continue to excel in this new role as we continue to strive for championships.”
Gipson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Belhaven with degrees in Psychology and Sports Administration. He is currently working on his Master's of Business Administration.
