Sanchez Scores Twice as Blazers Top Lyon, 3-1

BATESVILLE, Ark. - Adrian Sanchez scored twice in the opening four minutes of the second half as Belhaven earned a 3-1 win over Lyon on Friday at J. Marshall Huser Soccer Field.

The victory was the second straight for the Blazers, who improved to 2-4 on the season.

Wyatt Dupre put Belhaven in front at the 8:19 mark with an unassisted goal. The Blazers carried the 1-0 lead into halftime after Justin Ramirez stopped shots from Micah Rangel and Pol Torres Lligadas during the opening period.

Belhaven wasted little time adding to its lead after the break. Ricardo Flores set up Sanchez just 44 seconds into the second half, and the pair connected again at 48:49 to give the Blazers a 3-0 advantage.

Sanchez has now scored in three consecutive matches and finished Friday with four shots, two goals and two attempts on target. Flores recorded two assists, while Dupre scored on his only shot of the match.

The Blazers nearly added a fourth goal in the 67th minute when Graham Harris hit the right post. Lyon broke through at 84:05 on a goal by Andre Rodriguez, but Belhaven allowed just one more shot over the closing minutes.

Belhaven finished with a 12-10 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Each team placed four attempts on goal. Ramirez played all 90 minutes and made three saves to pick up the win.

The Blazers continue their Arkansas road trip later this weekend against Hendrix in Conway. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
