JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven Volleyball closed its weekend with another straight-set victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Principia 25-6, 25-13, 25-8 inside Rugg Arena.

The Blazers improved to 3-5 with their third win in less than 24 hours. Belhaven finished the match with 31 kills and just nine errors, hitting .306 while holding Principia to six kills and a -.246 attack percentage. Belhaven also controlled the match from the service line, recording 20 aces from six different players.

Principia scored the opening point of the first set before the Blazers took command with eight straight. Tarryn Woodall served five aces during the run as Belhaven built an 8-1 lead.

The Blazers continued to pull away with scoring runs of four, six and six points. Megan LaCour served Belhaven from an 18-5 lead to set point, with McKenna Matthews and Cami Davis each supplying two kills during the stretch. Asia Price closed the 25-6 win with a kill.

Belhaven scored the first three points of the second and used a five-point run to extend a 7-3 advantage to 12-3. Angel Edwards served throughout the run, adding an ace before back-to-back Principia attack errors.

Principia cut into the margin with five unanswered points late in the set, but the Blazers stopped the run with a Matthews kill. Belhaven then scored the final four points, including a block from Davis and Laila Gauthier, to take the set 25-13.

The Blazers created separation midway through the third. Leading 6-3, Belhaven reeled off eight straight points behind the serve of LaCour. The senior recorded two aces during the run, while Davis, Matthews and Edwards each added a kill.

Maggie Joy Tomlin later took over at the service line with Belhaven ahead 17-6. Tomlin served four consecutive aces during a seven-point run that pushed the lead to 23-6. Matthews delivered a kill at set point before a Principia attack error finished the sweep.

Matthews led a balanced Belhaven attack with six kills on eight attempts without an error, finishing with a .750 hitting percentage. Goldie Lowe added five kills while hitting .444, and Davis recorded four kills on a .400 clip with three block assists.

Gauthier also finished with four kills, while LaCour, Price and Mickeyla Sitsler added three apiece. Ten different Blazers recorded at least one kill.

Tomlin handed out 13 assists to go with four aces, while Edwards finished with 10 assists and three aces. Woodall led all players with seven aces, and Kayla Robinson paced the defense with 14 digs while adding two aces.

Belhaven opens Collegiate Conference of the South play Friday, Sept. 18, at Covenant. First serve is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
