JACKSON, Miss. - LeTourneau scored less than five minutes after Belhaven tied the match to defeat the Blazers, 2-1, Thursday night at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
Belhaven controlled the early stages of the match and put three shots on goal inside the opening 13 minutes. LeTourneau goalkeeper Edson Camara Martinez stopped attempts from
Wyatt Dupre,
Courtland Williams and
Diego Sarzalejo to keep the match scoreless.
Justin Ramirez made his first save of the night on a Colton Chalker attempt in the 19th minute.
The Blazers continued to create chances, with Dupre,
Graham Harris and
Luke Finley each recording a shot between the 30th and 34th minutes.
LeTourneau broke through at 35:31 when Bridge Mwambukiri scored off a feed from Chalker. The visitors carried the 1-0 lead into halftime despite Belhaven holding an 8-4 advantage in shots.
Dupre forced another save two minutes into the second half and tested Camara Martinez again in the 61st minute.
Belhaven found the equalizer at 69:01. Ivan Quiñones and Sarzalejo combined to set up
Zachary Howard, who scored his first career collegiate to pull the Blazers level.
LeTourneau answered at 73:59 when Leandro Ferreira scored off Chalker's second assist of the match on a no-look heel tap.
Belhaven pushed for another equalizer, earning a corner kick in the 76th minute before Howard and Finley recorded shots during the ensuing attack.
The Blazers finished with a 17-10 advantage in shots and placed six attempts on goal compared to five for LeTourneau. Belhaven also held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Dupre and Williams led the Blazers with four shots apiece. Dupre placed three of his attempts on goal, while Howard scored on one of his two shots. Sarzalejo recorded one shot on goal and joined Quiñones with an assist.
Ramirez played all 90 minutes and finished with three saves.
Belhaven remains home with a quick turnaround on Saturday to host East Texas Baptist at Belhaven Bowl Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
