JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven Softball will continue its postseason run at Jim McLeod Field this week as the Blazers host the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the NCAA Division III Super Regional round.
The best two-out-of-three series will mark the first NCAA Super Regional hosted by Belhaven and will determine a spot in the NCAA Division III Softball World Series, set for May 28-June 3 in Salem, Virginia.
Game 1 of the Jackson Super Regional is set for 2:00 PM on Thursday. Game 2, and an if necessary game 3, are set for 1:00 PM & 3:30 PM the following day.
Belhaven enters the Super Regional at 40-10 after capturing the NCAA Division III Belhaven Regional last weekend. The Blazers opened the regional with an 8-2 win over Westminster before rolling past Emory 9-1 in five innings to move one win away from the regional title.
After dropping the first championship game of the day to Emory, 15-7, Belhaven had to regroup quickly with its season on the line. Less than two hours later, the Blazers responded with one of their strongest all-around performances of the season, defeating the Eagles 4-0 in the winner-take-all regional final.
Funderburk was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Belhaven Regional after going 3-1 with a 2.57 ERA and 13 strikeouts across 16.1 innings.
Ellie Williamson, Dunbar and
Kaleigh Steverson were also named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team.
Williamson led the Blazers at the plate during the regional with a .545 batting average, while Steverson hit .417 and drove in five runs. Dunbar added five hits, including three extra-base hits, as Belhaven hit .373 as a team with 28 runs, 41 hits, 12 doubles and six home runs over four regional games.
UW-Oshkosh enters the matchup at 33-8-1 after an unbeaten run through the St. Louis Regional. The Titans won three one-run games, including a 2-1 victory over host Washington University in St. Louis in the regional final.
UW-Oshkosh's regional title was built on pitching, defense and timely hitting. The Titans did not commit an error during the regional and have played error-free in 27 games this season. Haylie Wittman was named the St. Louis Regional Most Outstanding Player, while Brianna Bougie and Grace Nardi joined her on the All-Tournament Team.
This will be UW-Oshkosh's third Super Regional appearance and its first since 2024. The Titans have won five regional titles in program history. Belhaven and UW-Oshkosh have met just once previously, with the Blazers sweeping a doubleheader from the Titans on March 17, 2006, in Pensacola, Florida.
Now, the two programs meet again with a trip to the NCAA Division III World Series on the line.
Stay tuned later this week for a full NCAA Division III Softball Super Regional preview.
