Blazers Softball Sweeps Agnes Scott in CCS Opening Doubleheader

DECATUR, Ga. - The No. 20 ranked Belhaven Softball team opened Collegiate Conference of the South play in dominant fashion on Friday, sweeping Agnes Scott in a doubleheader at Oakhurst Field. The Blazers rolled to a 17-0 run-rule victory in game one before completing the sweep with an 8-0 shutout in game two.

Belhaven combined for 25 runs on 26 hits across the two games while the pitching staff limited Agnes Scott to just eight total hits on the day.

Game One - Belhaven 17, Agnes Scott 0 (5 innings)

Belhaven delivered one of its most explosive offensive innings of the season, scoring 16 runs in the second inning to break the game wide open en route to a run-rule victory.

After a quiet first inning, the Blazers erupted in the second. The rally began with traffic on the bases before Maddie Bruner drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the first run. Moments later, Grace Langston lined a two-run single to center, and Melissa Lopera followed with an RBI double to extend the lead.

The inning continued to snowball as Reagan Bryan launched a three-run home run to left field, pushing the advantage to 7-0. Not long after, Kaleigh Steverson added a two-run homer of her own to make it 9-0.

Belhaven kept the pressure on with disciplined at-bats and timely hitting. Another bases-loaded hit-by-pitch brought in a run, Langston added two more RBI with a single, and Lopera contributed again with an RBI knock. The inning was capped by Steverson driving in another run on a fielder's choice and Ellie Williamson delivering a two-run double as the Blazers plated 16 runs on 10 hits in the frame.

Despite the offensive explosion, the Blazers' pitching staff was equally sharp. Karley Rouse set the tone early, allowing just two hits over three innings while striking out four. She worked out of the only threat in the second inning after Agnes Scott recorded back-to-back singles, retiring the next hitter to strand both runners.

AR Sharp closed out the game with two scoreless innings, navigating a two-on situation in the fourth by inducing a key out to preserve the shutout.

Belhaven added its final run in the fifth when Rouse helped her own cause with an RBI single to make it 17-0.

The Blazers finished with 15 hits, highlighted by Langston's four RBI and Bryan's three RBI. Lopera and Bryan each recorded multiple hits, while Steverson's home run fueled the big inning.

Game Two - Belhaven 8, Agnes Scott 0

Belhaven carried its momentum into game two, using consistent offense and dominant pitching to complete the sweep.

The Blazers struck early in the first inning when Maryanna Guy drove in Reagan Bryan, who tripled to open the game, giving Belhaven a 1-0 lead.

Belhaven extended the lead in the third inning. After Grace Langston tripled, a defensive error allowed a run to score, and a sacrifice fly from Bryan made it 3-0.

The Blazers created additional scoring opportunities in the middle innings and broke through again in the fifth. Langston doubled and later scored on an error before Guy delivered an RBI single. Ellie Williamson followed with a run-scoring triple to push the lead to 6-0.

Belhaven added insurance runs late, including a solo home run from Lauren Dunbar in the sixth inning and an RBI groundout in the seventh to cap the scoring at 8-0.

In the circle, Gracey Harbour was dominant, allowing just one hit over 4.1 innings while striking out four. She worked efficiently through the lineup and escaped the lone jam in the fifth inning by stranding two runners with back-to-back strikeouts.

Macy Funderburk closed out the game with 2.2 scoreless innings, combining with Harbour to hold Agnes Scott to just three hits while striking out eight batters.

Langston led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance and two runs scored, while Guy added three hits and an RBI. Bryan scored three times and recorded a triple as part of Belhaven's 11-hit effort.

Belhaven improves to 18-7 overall and opens conference play at 2-0 as the Blazers continue their strong start in CCS action. The team continues its Georgia road trip with a doubleheader at Wesleyan tomorrow. First pitch is set for 11:00 AM.
