Blazers Sweep Doubleheader, Finish 6-0 at the Spring Games

BARTOW, Fla. - The Belhaven Softball team continued its dominant run at the Spring Games in Bartow, Florida on Saturday, earning a pair of victories over Lake Forest and SUNY Fredonia to push its winning streak to nine games.

The Blazers defeated Lake Forest 11-1 in five innings before closing the day with a 13-0 no-hitter against Fredonia. With the sweep, Belhaven finished the week a perfect 6-0 at the Spring Games. The no-hitter in the second game marked the first for the Blazers since May 3, 2024 at Huntingdon.

Game One - Belhaven 11, Lake Forest 1 (5 innings)

Belhaven broke open a close game with explosive third and fourth innings to defeat Lake Forest in run-rule fashion.

After a scoreless first inning, the Blazers pushed across the game's first run in the bottom of the second. With runners on base following a single and a walk, Grace Langston drew a bases-loaded walk that allowed Ellie Williamson to score after a throwing error, giving Belhaven a 1-0 lead.

Lake Forest responded in the third inning, loading the bases with two singles before a groundout plated the tying run. The Blazers escaped further damage by retiring the next batter to limit the inning and keep the game tied at 1-1.

Belhaven answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning with a four-run surge.

After Maryanna Guy doubled to begin the rally, Liberty Gillihan delivered a two-run single to center field to put the Blazers back in front. Moments later, Maddie Bruner doubled to left field to drive in two more runs and stretch the lead to 5-1.

The Blazers added another big inning in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Melissa Lopera opened the frame with a single before Reagan Bryan delivered a two-run single that extended the lead. Gillihan followed with a two-run double to center field, and Bruner capped the inning with a two-run home run to left field as Belhaven scored six runs in the frame to make it 11-1.

Belhaven finished the game with 11 runs on 11 hits, highlighted by a four-RBI performance from Bruner and four RBI from Gillihan. Guy added two doubles, while Williamson scored three times.

In the circle, Karley Rouse earned the win after allowing just one run on four hits across four innings. Gracey Harbour closed out the game with a scoreless fifth inning as Belhaven secured the run-rule victory.

Game Two - Belhaven 13, SUNY Fredonia 0 (5 innings)

Belhaven capped the day with a dominant performance, recording a no-hitter while scoring 13 runs on 16 hits in a five-inning victory.

The Blazers broke the game open in the second inning. After Williamson reached base and advanced into scoring position, Grace Langston lined an RBI single up the middle to bring home the first run. Moments later, Melissa Lopera ripped a triple to right field that drove in two runs before Reagan Bryan followed with an RBI double to give Belhaven a 5-0 lead.

Belhaven continued to build momentum in the third inning with another big offensive frame.

After Kaleigh Steverson doubled to open the inning, Gracey Harbour drove in a run with a single. Langston later drew a bases-loaded walk to score another run before Lopera added an RBI single. Maryanna Guy then delivered a two-run single that, combined with an outfield error, allowed multiple runs to score and push the Blazers' advantage to 11-0.

The Blazers added two more runs in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 13-0, highlighted by an RBI single from Macy Funderburk.

While the offense powered the scoreboard, Belhaven's pitching staff was equally dominant.

AR Sharp struck out six batters over three hitless innings before Laura Beth Nesmith completed the no-hitter with two scoreless innings in relief, striking out four. The duo combined for 10 strikeouts without allowing a hit.

Lopera led the offense with two hits and three RBI, while Emma Moore added two hits and two runs scored. The Blazers totaled 16 hits in the victory.

The Blazers have short rest, hosting Illinois Wesleyan for a doubleheader at McLeod Field on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
