Belhaven Sweeps LeTourneau in Opening Day Doubleheader

JACKSON, Miss. – Belhaven softball opened the 2026 season with a doubleheader sweep of LeTourneau on Saturday at Jim McLeod Field, earning a 7–3 win in the opener before securing a 5–4 walk-off victory in game two. The Blazers improve to 2–0 on the season.

Game One: Belhaven 7, LeTourneau 3

Belhaven jumped out to an early lead and pulled away late to take game one. Emma Moore opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double, and the Blazers added single runs in the second and third to build a 3–0 advantage.

Gracey Harbour earned the win in the circle, tossing three scoreless innings in relief after Macy Funderburk worked the first three frames. Belhaven broke the game open in the sixth inning with four runs. Kaleigh Steverson recorded an RBI single, Lauren Dunbar scored on a groundout, and Melissa Lopera highlighted the inning with a two-run home run down the left-field line.

LeTourneau scored three runs in the seventh, but AR Sharp closed out the contest to earn the save. Belhaven totaled 11 hits in the opener, including doubles from Moore, Ellie Williamson, Steverson, and Maddie Bruner.

Game Two: Belhaven 5, LeTourneau 4

The Blazers rallied for a walk-off win in game two after overcoming an early deficit. LeTourneau took a 3–0 lead in the third inning, but Belhaven responded with four runs in the fourth to take the lead.

Liberty Gillihan delivered a two-run single during the inning, while Maryanna Guy added an RBI single to put Belhaven ahead, 4–3.

LeTourneau tied the game in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for a late finish. Reagan Bryan led off the bottom half with a double and moved to third on a passed ball. Melissa Lopera then drove in the winning run with a walk-off single down the left-field line.

Karley Rouse started game two and worked 6.1 innings in the circle. AR Sharp earned the win in relief after recording the final out of the seventh.

Gillihan finished the nightcap with two RBIs, while Lopera drove in the game-winning run to complete the sweep.

The Blazers return to regular season action next Friday as they head to Marshall to face ETBU in a matchup of Top 15 teams in the country.
