JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's & Women's Tennis teams returned to Parham Bridges on Thursday afternoon, falling 6-2 and 6-3 to MUW in a weekday matchup.
On the men's side, MUW claimed the doubles point with wins at all three positions, taking early control of the team score.
Belhaven responded in singles with two impressive straight-set victories.
Harshith Anugonda delivered a strong performance at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Jesus Diaz followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2, continuing his solid early-season form after previously picking up wins against Rust and earlier matches during the opening stretch.
MUW secured the team result with wins at No's. 3, 4, and 5th singles. The No. 6 match between
Jack Madden and Dylan Barber was left unfinished after the pair split the opening two sets, with Madden taking the first 6-4 before Barber answered 6-4 in the second.
The Belhaven women's tennis team turned in its strongest performance of the season.
The Blazers opened the match with a win at No. 1 doubles, as
Millie Gallarno and
Rebekah Nichols earned a convincing 6-1 victory to secure an early point.
In singles play, Nichols continued her steady form at the top of the lineup with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1. Gallarno followed with a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 2, winning 7-5 in the opening set before closing out the match 6-4 in the third. Those results marked the first singles victories of the spring for both players after facing challenging competition in earlier matches against Southwest Mississippi and East Central.
Evey Moore pushed her opponent at No. 3 before falling, while
Arica Eason battled to three sets at No. 5, claiming the second set 7-5 before MUW secured the deciding frame.
The Blazers are back in action on Saturday as they take on Mobile at home. The first match is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
