Blazers Men's Basketball Bounces Back at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. - Belhaven Men's Basketball delivered one of their most complete offensive performances of the season Saturday afternoon, racing past Piedmont 110-76 inside Cave Arena.

The Blazers shot 55.3 percent from the field, assisted on 25 made baskets, and built separation with dominant stretches in both halves to improve to 11-12 overall and 5-5 in CCS play.

Belhaven placed six players in double figures and controlled the paint from the opening minutes, finishing with 58 points inside and 23 second-chance points.

The game opened tightly, as Fisher Darden scored the first basket before Charleston Wallace answered at the rim to tie the game 2-2. From there, Belhaven seized control with its first major surge.

A three from Dan Robinson, followed by a layup from Dyllion Redmond and consecutive free throws by Redmond, pushed the Blazers ahead 13-5. When Israel Hall and Dylan Patrick scored inside to cut the margin to six, Belhaven responded immediately.

The turning point came midway through the half. After Patrick finished in transition to trim the deficit to 22-17, Belhaven answered with a decisive 18-5 run. Neal Terry scored twice in the paint, CJ Minton converted a fast-break layup off a steal, and Braylon Dame buried a three to stretch the margin to 40-22.

Hall briefly stopped the run with a three and a dunk in transition, but Belhaven closed the half with authority. DJ Jones knocked down a three, Stewart finished on the break after a steal, and Redmond capped the half with a buzzer-beating three to send the Blazers into the locker room up 63-37.

Piedmont attempted to spark momentum early in the second half when Javi Marlowe converted a fast-break dunk, but Belhaven quickly answered. Wallace scored at the rim, Minton knocked down a three, and Jones drilled another triple to extend the lead to 71-39.

The defining stretch came around the 13-minute mark. After Patrick scored inside, Belhaven strung together a 16-2 run that effectively put the game away. Stewart buried a three, Jones followed with another from the wing, and Minton connected from beyond the arc as the lead ballooned past 40.

Hall tried to keep Piedmont within reach with a pair of finishes in the paint, but Belhaven's ball movement and transition play continued to overwhelm. Stewart added another three in transition, and Robinson converted back-to-back fast-break layups following steals to push the lead to 101-52.

From there, the Blazers maintained control, getting interior baskets from Christian McGahan and Wallace while closing out the 110-76 victory.

The Blazers return home to take on Huntingdon this Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
