Belhaven Drops Doubleheader Against No. 9 ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas – Belhaven softball faced a tough road test on Friday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader against No. 9 ETBU. The Blazers fell 8–0 in the opening contest before being edged out 1–0 in a pitcher's duel in the nightcap.

Game One: East Texas Baptist 8, Belhaven 0

The Blazers struggled to find their rhythm offensively in the opener, as ETBU's pitching held them to just three hits over six innings. Belhaven's best scoring opportunity came in the third inning when Grace Langston and Melissa Lopera connected for back-to-back singles, followed by a walk to Emma Moore, but the Blazers left the bases loaded to end the threat.

Macy Funderburk started in the circle for Belhaven, striking out three batters and allowing only one hit in 1.1 innings of work.

Game Two: East Texas Baptist 1, Belhaven 0

The second game of the day was a defensive battle, with Karley Rouse delivering a stellar performance for the Blazers in the circle. Rouse pitched a complete game, allowing only one run on four hits while striking out two in 6.0 innings.

Belhaven's offense threatened early in the first inning when Lopera singled and Reagan Bryan doubled to center field, putting two runners in scoring position with one out. Despite out-hitting the Tigers 6–4, the Blazers were unable to push a run across. The only scoring of the game came via a solo home run in the bottom of the third.

Lopera led the offensive effort in the nightcap, finishing 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. The Blazers continued to fight in the fifth inning, putting two runners on after a Lopera single and a Bryan hit-by-pitch, but the ETBU defense held firm to preserve the narrow lead.

Belhaven looks to bounce back as they continue their 2026 campaign.
