WILMORE, Ky. - Belhaven Women's Basketball fell on the road Thursday night, dropping a 103-72 decision to Asbury at the Luce Center. The Blazers moved to 15-5 overall and 8-4 in CCS play on the season.
First Quarter
Belhaven opened with confidence, building a 7-0 lead behind strong interior play from
Kyla Farmer and
Katelyn Coleman, along with a three-pointer from
Veronica Williams. Farmer scored twice in the paint during the early stretch, and Coleman added a fast-break layup to push the margin to seven.
After leading 16-9 midway through the quarter, the momentum shifted. Asbury used a long run fueled by perimeter shooting and transition baskets to close the period ahead 33-19.
Second Quarter
Belhaven responded with one of their best offensive stretches of the night. Farmer continued to dominate inside, scoring multiple times on the block, while
Amanda Walker provided a lift off the bench with a finish in the paint and a free throw. Williams connected from deep, and
Kiersten Hudson added a three-pointer and a pair of free throws as the Blazers trimmed the deficit to 13.
Allison Liddell also contributed with a three late in the quarter, and Belhaven shot 50 percent from the field in the period. Despite the efficient offense, Asbury maintained a 60-44 advantage at halftime.
Third Quarter
Belhaven battled to stay within reach early in the second half. Williams scored in transition and at the line, and Coleman added a finish inside to keep the Blazers competitive. Farmer continued her strong night with another basket in the paint.
However, a scoring run by the hosts midway through the quarter stretched the margin beyond 20. Belhaven managed 13 points in the period, including buckets from Hudson and Coleman, but trailed 86-57 entering the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
The Blazers continued to compete down the stretch.
Ny Jones scored on a pull-up jumper and later added a fast-break layup.
Jayden Coleman knocked down a three-pointer, and
RaMya King followed with one of her own from beyond the arc. King also converted a pair of free throws in the closing minutes.
Williams led the team with 17 points, Farmer added 15, and Coleman finished with 12. Hudson recorded nine points and seven rebounds, while King and Liddell each contributed from the perimeter.
