JACKSON, Miss. - Alexis Whiting converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute, and
Addi Roberts made seven first-half saves as Belhaven rallied for a 1-1 draw with Mississippi Christian on Tuesday night at Belhaven Bowl Stadium. The result extended the Blazers' unbeaten streak to nine matches.
Mississippi Christian held a 10-1 advantage in first-half shots, but Roberts kept the match scoreless. She stopped two attempts by Karah Boydstun just 41 seconds apart in the 25th and 26th minutes, then turned away Brinnslee Picard's shot in the final minute before halftime.
Jensen Ward took Belhaven's lone attempt of the half, sending it high in the third minute.
Sidney Roest took over in goal after the break. The Choctaws went ahead at 54:03 when Keiran Goodman scored off a pass from Amanda McFarlin, but Roest saved Picard's attempt in the 67th minute to keep Belhaven within one. A Mississippi Christian handball gave the Blazers a penalty kick at 76:30, and Whiting converted for her second consecutive match with a goal to level the match. Roest made another save on Kate Crisler in the 86th minute to preserve the draw.
Mississippi Christian finished with a 15-2 edge in shots, a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal and four corner kicks to Belhaven's one. Roberts and Roest combined for nine saves. Whiting's penalty was the Blazers' only shot on goal, while
Londyn Guillot,
Hayden Kessler and
Adie Sheeley each played all 90 minutes in the Blazer backline.
Roberts' seven saves marked her fourth match with at least seven this season, joining a seven-save outing at Hendrix, eight saves against LeTourneau and nine at Piedmont. In the programs' first regular-season meeting since 2015, the draw moved Belhaven's all-time series record against the Choctaws to 4-3-1.
Belhaven returns to CCS play Saturday, hosting Covenant at 5 p.m. at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
