Blazers Men's Basketball Fall Despite Career Night from Robinson

Maryville, Tenn. - Belhaven Men's Basketball saw its six-game winning streak come to an end Saturday night with a 92-76 setback on the road. The Blazers were led by a career-high 32 points from Dan Robinson, but early separation by Maryville and key second-half responses proved decisive. The Blazers moved to 9-8 overall and 3-1 in CCS play.

The game opened at a fast pace, with Belhaven answering an early basket with scores from Robinson and Dyllion Redmond to briefly take the lead. Robinson attacked the paint early and often, accounting for multiple early baskets as the Blazers stayed even through the opening minutes.

Midway through the half, the momentum shifted. The Scots used a short scoring run fueled by a transition three from Jackson Garner and second-chance finishes from Chase Morgan to create separation. After Robinson tied the game at 11-11, that stretch pushed the margin to two possessions.

Belhaven continued to compete, getting interior finishes from Neal Terry and another strong drive from Robinson, but struggled to slow the run as the home side capitalized on offensive rebounds and trips to the free-throw line. Late baskets by Matthew Schneider and free throws from Jamal Ware closed the half, sending Belhaven into the locker room trailing 46-30.

Belhaven responded with urgency out of the break. Robinson knocked down a three on the opening possession, then followed with consecutive finishes at the rim as the Blazers trimmed the deficit to single digits by the first media timeout. Terry added a basket inside, and Robinson continued to carry the offense, scoring on three straight possessions to pull Belhaven within eight.

A brief Belhaven surge midway through the half cut the margin further. Benjamin Stewart hit a timely three, CJ Minton scored inside, and Robinson capped the stretch with another strong drive to make it 54-47.

The home team answered quickly. Back-to-back baskets from Morgan and a transition three from Jaylon Green halted the momentum and pushed the lead back to double figures. Belhaven continued to battle, with Braylon Dame scoring on a layup and later hitting a three to cut the margin to 68-61 with just under 10 minutes remaining.

Each time the Blazers threatened, the response came quickly. Morgan added another finish inside, and Schneider converted at the line to maintain separation. Robinson continued to score late, adding a pair of baskets and a free throw, but the Scots closed the final minutes with strong interior play to seal the 92-76 final.

The Blazers shot 47.6 percent from the field and matched the Scots point-for-point in the second half, but early turnovers and second-chance opportunities created a gap that proved difficult to overcome.

The Blazers head to LaGrange in a rematch from earlier this month. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
