Late Goals Secure Belhaven Win Over ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team grabbed a stellar road win over East Texas Baptist on Saturday, coming from behind in the final 20 minutes to flip a 2-1 deficit into the 3-2 victory.

Belhaven would open the scoring against the Tigers as Wesley Bloodworth fired one home in just the 13th minute for his second goal in as many matches. The Blazers would maintain control until late in the first half when ETBU found a 39th minute equalizer.

The Tigers then took the lead in the 56th minute and put Belhaven on the back foot. It would be Avery Anders who came up with the all-important equalizer for the Blazers, scoring in the 70th minute and giving Belhaven a chance to play for the win in the final 20 minutes.

In the 85th minute, Louie Richard would be the hero as he came off the bench and scored the first goal of his Belhaven career to give Belhaven the late winner and keep them unbeaten on the early season.

The Blazers outshot ETBU on the day 12-8 although the Tigers would hold a slight edge in shots on target 7-6. Goalkeeper Danny Bahena made four saves in the win with Wesley Bloodworth providing the opening goal and the assist on the winner. Samuel Hadley assisted Bloodworth's first half goal.

Next up for Belhaven is a midweek trip to Birmingham where the Blazers will face Oglethorpe in a neutral site match. Kickoff on Wednesday is set for 7:00 PM.
