Volleyball Battles at ETBU Tournament in Marshall

MARSHALL, Texas — Belhaven Volleyball continued early- season tournament play on Friday with two matches at the East Texas Baptist University Tournament. Belhaven fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor (10-25, 17-25, 15-25) and Concordia (TX) (18-25, 23-25, 10-25). 

Match vs. Mary Hardin-Baylor

After dropping the first set 25-10, the Blazers made a push for the second set, tying it up at 11-11, before the Crusaders scored eight consecutive points in the middle set to secure a 25-17 decision, and finishing the match with a 25-15 final set.

For the Blazers, Megan LaCour led the offense with 12 kills, while Rylee White contributed four. Jade De La Torre and Kayla Robinson each finished with 11 and 10 digs respectively.

Match vs. Concordia (TX)

Belhaven fell to Concordia (TX) in three sets. The first two sets were contested, seeing a combined 13 tied scores. Concordia (TX) took the first set 25-18 after a late-set run to pull away.

The Blazers answered back in the second set, keeping within four points for the entire set. After trailing 22-19, LaCour registered three consecutive kills to tie the set at 22 apiece. Concordia (TX) scored three of the next four points to pull away with a 25-23 win in the second set.

Concordia (TX) closed the match with a 25-10 third set win. 

For the Blazers, LaCour led the team with 11 kills, while Corinne Cason notched four. Rylee White and Kylarr Martin each tallied two kills. Miriam Ateca paced the offense with 13 assists and 10 digs.

The Blazers will stay in the Lone Star State for one more day as the team continues tournament play against the University of Dallas at 9:00 AM followed by a match against East Texas Baptist at 1:00 PM.
