FLOWOOD, Miss. - The Belhaven Volleyball team dropped both ends of their Saturday doubleheader against LaGrange and LeTourneau with both matches strongly contested, including their match against LaGrange going to five sets.
Match vs. LaGrange
The Blazers began the day with their conference opening match against LaGrange where the Blazers and Panthers would play a five match thrilled that saw Belhaven come up just short in the end. After LaGrange took the opening set by a slim, 25-23 scoreline, Belhaven battled back to even things up with a 28-26 victory in set two.
Belhaven would then take a 2-1 set lead after taking the third set 25-17, the widest set margin of the match. In the fourth set, the Blazers nearly closed out the win, but the Panthers managed to force a decisive fifth set which they would go on to win 15-9.
The first match of the day was highlighted by
Megan LaCour's team-high 17 kills while
Rylee White added 10 kills of her own and four blocks.
Miriam Ateca finished the match with 21 assists while
Madison Butler tallied 18 assists.
Match vs. LeTourneau
The second match of the day for the Blazers saw them fall to non-conference opposition LeTourneau in straight sets. All three sets were closely contest with LeTourneau taking the first two by identical 25-17 scorelines before holding on for a 25-20 win in set three that saw them pick up the victory.
Megan LaCour once again led the way for Belhaven with 11 kills as she brings her season total past the century mark. Ateca and Butler combined for 21 assists in the final match of the day while
Rylee White had a pair of aces and a pair of blocks.
Belhaven will return to action next weekend as they continue conference play with a trip to Tennessee where they will face Maryville and Piedmont in a CCS tri-match.Â
