Box Score DEMOREST, Ga. – The No. 3 seed Belhaven Women's Basketball team punched their ticket to Saturday's CCS Tournament title game with a 66-60 win over No. 2 Asbury on Friday night at Cave Arena. With the win, the Blazers have now won 10 straight heading into Saturday.
It was the Eagles who jumped out to the early lead by scoring the game's first seven points. Belhaven battled back with a pair of threes, but Asbury took a 12-6 lead into the first media timeout. The Blazers closed the first quarter strong and were able to cut a once nine-point lead to 20-15 after one.
Belhaven continued that momentum into the second by outscoring the Eagles by 11 to take a 31-25 lead late in the half. Asbury closed the gap, but the Blazers still held on the lead at 33-30 heading into the halftime break.
The Eagles grabbed the lead late in the third quarter before a Belhaven spurt cut the score to 49-46 Eagles after three. Once again, the Blazers outplayed their opponent down the stretch, outscoring Asbury 20-11 in the final quarter to secure the win and a spot in the CCS Championship for the second straight year. Free throws from Veronica Williams in the final minute put a bow on the victory for the Green and Gold.
Katelyn Coleman provided a massive offensive spark off the bench, totaling 17 points and six rebounds to lead the Blazers. Ally Alford and Shakendalah Jones finished in double figures as well with 10 points apiece.
The Blazers will look to continue their strong play over the past month and punch their ticket to an NCAA Tournament appearance with a win in tomorrow's Championship. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM CT.
