JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Softball team put on an impressive display in their doubleheader against Mary Hardin-Baylor, taking both games at Jim McLeod Field to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Game One: No. 5 Belhaven 7, Mary Hardin-Baylor 4

The Blazers jumped out early, scoring in four of the first five innings to establish control. A balanced offensive effort saw Belhaven tally 11 hits, with Lauren Dunbar, Madi Miller, and Anna Caime each contributing multiple hits. Ellie Jones drove in a key RBI in the third, while Madi Miller and Ellie Williamson added crucial insurance runs in the later innings.

In the circle, Macy Funderburk (2-0) was dominant, tossing a complete game while allowing just four unearned runs and striking out four. Belhaven would hold off a late rally attempt by the Cru to pick up the opening game win.

Game Two: Belhaven 10, Mary Hardin-Baylor 2

After falling behind 2-0 early, Belhaven's bats erupted in the later innings, including a seven-run fifth inning that blew the game open and secure a run-rule victory. Ellie Jones starred at the plate, launching three home runs and driving in four runs in total, while Madi Miller and Hanna Levy also had key hits to fuel the offensive outburst.

Pitcher Belle West (2-1) was stellar, tossing six strong innings while allowing just two runs on six hits. The Blazers' defense turned a crucial double play to keep Mary Hardin-Baylor at bay in the top of the 5th of a 2-2 game which directly led to the Blazers' offensive outburst in the home half of the inning.

With the win, Belhaven improves to 4-1 on the early season and has won three straight. Next up for the Blazers is a trip to Columbus, Georgia for the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic. Belhaven will open the tournament on February 28th when they take on the University of Chicago and DePauw University.
