JACKSON – The Belhaven Men's Basketball team continued their dominance in conference play with a 73-64 victory over Huntingdon on Thursday night at Rugg Arena. The win keeps Belhaven's conference record unblemished at 10-0 while improving their overall mark to 20-3 and takes their overall win streak out to 15 games.
The Blazers controlled the game from the outset, never trailing throughout the contest. Belhaven built a 37-30 lead by halftime, thanks to an efficient offensive attack led by Jordan Marshall, who poured in a game-high 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Jacob Reese was a force in the paint, securing a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds.
Huntingdon (17-6, 6-4) attempted to rally in the second half, cutting the deficit to single digits, but Belhaven's defense tightened down the stretch. The Blazers held the Hawks to just 35.5% shooting from the field, forcing 15 turnovers and converting them into transition opportunities.
Belhaven's balanced attack also featured Jonathan Lucas, who contributed 11 points and eight rebounds, while DeMarcus Powe chipped in nine points and three assists. The Blazers shot 48.3% from the while dominating the glass with a 38-33 rebounding advantage.
With this victory, the Blazers extend their winning streak and solidify their grip on the top spot in the conference standings. The win marks the 20th of the season and secures the program's first 20-win season since 2009-10.
Belhaven will look to continue their momentum in their next matchup as they push toward postseason play taking on Asbury on Saturday at Rugg Arena. Tip off against the Eagles is set for 4:00 PM.
