JACKSON - The Belhaven Women's Volleyball team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday with a Senior Day doubleheader inside Rugg Arena. The Blazers fell in four sets to Mary Hardin-Baylor before dropping a tightly contested three-set match against Millsaps.
Belhaven finishes the regular season 12-20 overall and 7-9 in CCS play, securing the No. 6 seed in next week's Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament. The Blazers will travel to No. 3 Covenant for a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
MATCH 1: Mary Hardin-Baylor 3, Belhaven 1
(25-9, 8-25, 25-20, 25-23)
The Blazers delivered one of their most spirited performances of the year in the first match, rallying from an opening-set loss with a dominant second frame before narrowly falling in the third and fourth sets.
After hitting .435 in a 25-8 second-set win, Belhaven continued to battle behind balanced offensive play and aggressive serving. The Blazers finished the match with 40 kills, 10 service aces, and 58 digs, hitting .131 as a team.
Miriam Ateca recorded her 1,500th career kill with the Blazers in the match.
Maggie Joy Tomlin led the offense with 10 kills on a .391 hitting percentage, adding one ace and one block assist for 11.5 total points.
Megan LaCour followed with eight kills, nine total points, and eight digs.
Rylee White contributed seven kills, three block assists, and an ace for 9.5 points, while
Kylarr Martin posted seven kills and a block assist.
Tarryn Woodall recorded five kills, two aces, and five digs, while
Kayla Robinson anchored the defense with 22 digs and five service aces.
Madison Butler led the setting effort with 20 assists and added a kill, while Ateca provided 12 assists and 11 digs.
MATCH 2: Millsaps 3, Belhaven 0
(25-15, 25-19, 25-23)
Belhaven capped off Senior Day with another competitive performance, pushing Millsaps in every set before narrowly falling in straight sets. The Blazers hit .138 as a team with 37 kills and 51 digs.
Tarryn Woodall once again led the way with a career-high 12 kills on a .300 hitting percentage and a team-high 12 points with six digs.
Megan LaCour followed with six kills, two aces, and nine total points, while
Cami Davis added five kills and a solo block.
Maggie Joy Tomlin chipped in seven kills and five digs and
Rylee White added three kills and a service ace.
Madison Butler and
Miriam Ateca combined for 33 assists, with Butler recording 15 assists, three digs, and two aces, and Ateca adding 18 assists and seven digs.
Kayla Robinson continued her strong back-row play with a team-high 16 digs, while LaCour added nine digs defensively.
SENIOR DAY RECOGNITION
Before the second match, Belhaven honored its senior class for their contributions to the program both on and off the court. Four seniors,
Miriam Ateca,
Kylarr Martin,
Olivia Johnson and
Rylee White were recognized for their dedication to the program.
With the regular season complete, Belhaven (12-20, 7-9 CCS) turns its focus to the CCS Tournament, where the Blazers will enter as the No. 6 seed and travel to No. 3 Covenant for a quarterfinal showdown on Tuesday at 6:00 PM in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
