ATLANTA, Ga. - A historic season for the Belhaven Women's Soccer program came to a close on Saturday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament against No. 2 Emory. The Blazers fell to the hosts 6-0 to finish the Belhaven season.
The year was a successful one for the Blazers who are in the midst of one of the strongest multi-year runs in program history, racking up 40 wins across the past three seasons. The Blazers won their first ever Collegiate Conference of the South championship this season with a 2-1 win over Asbury in the CCS Final.
That conference championship was the first for the Blazers since 2004 when their won the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (now HBCUAC). It also earned them their first ever berth into the NCAA Tournament with that 2004 season the last time the Blazers made a national tournament appearance with that year's team appearing in the NAIA Tournament.
The Blazers finished the season with a record of 14-5-3 overall and those 14 wins are the most for the program since 2001. The Women's Soccer program becomes the 5th Belhaven team sport to earn a spot in an NCAA tournament since the Blazers became postseason eligible as an athletic department joining Softball, Football, Baseball and Men's Soccer.
