Blazers Volleyball Season Ends in CCS Quarterfinals

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Belhaven Volleyball's 2025 season came to a close Tuesday night with a 3-0 loss to Covenant College in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Quarterfinals at the Barnes PE Center.

The Blazers fell by set scores of 17-25, 18-25, and 21-25, finishing the season with a 12-21 overall record and 7-9 mark in CCS play.

Set One
Belhaven opened the match with hopes of establishing rhythm, but things didn't go their way early. The Blazers managed eight kills and hit just .030 in the first set. The score opened with a service error by the Blazers, and the host Scots quickly built a 4-0 lead. Belhaven got on the board with a kill by Tarryn Woodall, but Covenant extended the margin to 10-4 and later 17-10. An ace by senior setter Miriam Ateca gave Belhaven a bright moment at 7-13, but Covenant closed the set on an 8-4 run to capture it 25-17.

Set Two
The Blazers showed improved rhythm at the net, trading points through several long rallies, but Covenant's late push broke open what had been a close frame. Belhaven again finished with eight kills but was held to a .000 hitting percentage in the second set. Rylee White tallied a service ace and contributed on the block alongside Kylarr Martin, while Miriam Ateca added an ace of her own as the Blazers tried to mount a response. The team got a 4-0 run late to close the deficit to 16-23, but traded points to end the set.

Set Three
Belhaven's best offensive frame came in the third, where they hit .088 with nine kills on 34 swings. Woodall continued to pace the offense, finishing the match with a team-high seven kills and eight digs. LaCour followed with five kills and a team-leading 28 attack attempts, while Martin and Tomlin each chipped in four kills apiece. Madison Butler directed the offense with eight assists and added six digs, and Kayla Robinson anchored the defense with a team-high 11 digs to go along with two service aces.

The Blazers totaled 25 kills and six aces as a team, with Ateca, Robinson, and White each recording multiple service winners. Belhaven finished with 44 total digs and four team blocks, led by Martin's pair of block assists and one solo stop. Ateca also handed out 14 assists and posted three aces, bringing her career total to 175, which ties her for second-most aces in program history.

Tuesday's result marked the end of the 2025 campaign for the Blazers, who reached the CCS Tournament for the second straight season and continued to build momentum under the program's growing core of returning contributors. Senior setter Miriam Ateca closed her career ranked among Belhaven's all-time service leaders, while a young roster featuring multiple All-Conference selections gained valuable postseason experience heading into 2026.
