JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team continued its hot streak Tuesday evening, earning a gritty 2-1 home win over Faulkner at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
The Blazers got off to a quick start when
Lauren Snell found the back of the net in the ninth minute, capitalizing on an early attacking push to give Belhaven a 1-0 advantage. The early goal energized the team, which created several opportunities in the opening period and earned three corner kicks in the first half.
Despite controlling much of the possession, Belhaven saw its lead slip away just before halftime as Faulkner equalized in the 44th minute, sending the match into the break level at 1-1.
The Blazers regrouped after the interval and turned up the pressure, out-shooting the visitors six-to-four in the second half. The decisive moment came in the 74th minute when
Micah Benson delivered the go-ahead goal off a well-placed assist from
Kinsey Carter, putting Belhaven back in front 2-1.
The defense did the rest, with
Sidney Roest coming off the bench to make two key saves in the closing stages.
Addi Roberts also contributed a pair of saves earlier in the match to help keep the game level.
Tuesday's win marked the fifth consecutive win for Belhaven. During the streak, the Blazers have conceded just a single goal across the five matches.
Belhaven will be back at the Bowl this weekend when they take on Maryville on Saturday in a match between the top two teams in the conference. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
