JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University Men's Soccer team delivered a well-rounded performance on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day, powering past Maryville (TN) 4-1 at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
The Blazers were in control from the opening whistle, generating sustained pressure and firing off 11 first-half shots. The breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when
Louie Richard converted an assist from
Ciaran Colvin, putting Belhaven in front 1-0.
Belhaven doubled its lead early in the second half as
Samuel Hadley scored less than three minutes after the restart, capitalizing on a quick attacking sequence to make it 2-0. The visitors pulled one back moments later on a penalty kick, but the Blazers quickly regained control of the match.
In the 69th minute, the Blazers found the back of the net on an own goal to restore the two-goal cushion, and less than a minute later, Colvin added a goal of his own off an assist from
Mauro Hernandez, sealing the 4-1 win.
Belhaven's offense was sharp throughout, finishing with 18 total shots and 11 on goal, while also earning five corner kicks. Richard led the way with four shots, including two on target. Hadley, and Colvin each scored once, and the Blazers received assists from Colvin and Hernandez.
Defensively,
Danny Bahena earned the win in goal with one save. Belhaven's back line allowed just two shots on goal in open play.
The Blazers return to action on Wednesday when take on cross-town rival Millsaps. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM.
