MACON, Ga. - The Belhaven Women's Volleyball team wrapped up its road weekend with a split on Saturday at Porter Gymnasium. The Blazers started the day strong with a dominant sweep over Wesleyan (GA) before falling in four sets to Covenant in the afternoon match. With the split, Belhaven moved to 9-15 overall and 4-7 in CCS play.
MATCH 1: Belhaven 3, Wesleyan (GA) 0
(25-10, 25-8, 25-14)
Belhaven turned in one of its most efficient performances of the season to open the doubleheader, sweeping Wesleyan (GA) in straight sets while hitting a blistering .413 as a team. The Blazers controlled every phase of the match, recording 38 kills, 16 service aces, and holding the Wolves to a .038 hitting percentage.
Leading the attack,
Tarryn Woodall finished with nine kills on a .500 hitting clip, while
Rylee White added six kills and a team-best 3 service aces.
Jordyn Crenshaw posted five kills on a .714 percentage, and
Cami Davis chipped in four kills with three total blocks.
Maggie Joy Tomlin contributed across the board with four kills, six assists, and four service aces.Â
Miriam Ateca directed the offense with 12 assists and added two aces, while
Allie Dahlman added six assists and four aces. Defensively,
Kayla Robinson led with nine digs, and Davis added four more from the back row .
Belhaven's offense never slowed, hitting above .370 in every set and closing the match with a commanding 25-14 victory to complete the sweep.
MATCH 2: Covenant 3, Belhaven 1
(25-15, 25-16, 25-27, 26-24)
In the afternoon matchup, Belhaven pushed one of the conference's top teams to the limit, forcing a fourth set before falling in a tightly contested 3-1 decision. The Blazers fought through 26 total tied scores and 10 lead changes in the match.
Rylee White paced the Belhaven offense with 11 kills and a .167 hitting percentage, while also contributing five block assists and a service ace.
Cami Davis and
Megan LaCour followed with seven kills each, with Davis adding four block assists and LaCour tallying 10 digs.
Maggie Joy Tomlin and
Tarryn Woodall each recorded five kills, while
Kylarr Martin posted three kills and three block assists.
Madison Butler led the way with 14 assists and two service aces, and
Miriam Ateca added 18 assists and six digs.
Kayla Robinson once again anchored the back row with 21 digs, her third 20-dig match in conference play this season. At the net, Belhaven totaled 19 team blocks, with Davis and White combining for nine assists and a solo effort from Martin.
After dropping the first two sets, the Blazers surged in the third behind a .167 hitting percentage and clutch defensive play to win 27-25, before narrowly falling 26-24 in the fourth to close the match.
Belhaven (9-15, 4-7 CCS) have a week off before heading to Brookhaven, Ga. to take on Oglethorpe on Friday at 5:00 PM.Â
