JACKSON - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team picked up a massive 4-0 win in conference play on Saturday as they stormed past reigning CCS champs Maryville at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
In a matchup of the two teams at the top of the CCS standings, it was Belhaven who opened the scoring as
Emma Antonoplos polished off a weaving run through the Scots' backline by sidestepping the goalkeeper and firing Belhaven in front in 16th minute.
Alyssa Wilson, who had an earlier goal ruled out for offside, then doubled the Belhaven advantage in the 24th minute following a free kick that saw a follow-up cross take a deflection and fall to the Belhaven defender unmarked in the box.
Coming out of the halftime interval with a 2-0 lead, the Blazers wasted no time putting the match away. Antonoplos got her second of the match and Belhaven's third in the 51st minute after a mishit clearance came to her on the edge of the Maryville penalty area. Antonoplos hit a dipping volley over the goalkeeper's head and inside the far post.
Antonoplos would then finish off her hat trick just a few minutes later after
Lauren Snell forced a turnover in the midfield and swiftly slipped a pass over to Belhaven's No. 10 who coolly picked up her third goal of the day.
Antonoplos led the way with her hat trick while
Lauren Snell picked up a pair of assists in the win. Belhaven also grabbed another conference clean sheet, their fifth straight in CCS play, and extended their win streak to six matches overall.
Next up for the Blazers is the Riverside Derby against Millsaps on Tuesday. Kickoff at the Majors is set for 5:00 PM.
