DECATUR, Ga. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team improved their conference record to 3-0 on Saturday with a 76-34 win over Agnes Scott.
The Blazers got off to a fast start against the hosts with a 15-4 advantage through the first quarter that included a 7-0 scoring run from the opening tipoff. Belhaven's dominance continued into the second quarter and the Blazers found their offensive groove outscoring the opposition 25-10 in the frame to lead 40-14 at the half.
In the second quarter, Belhaven more than doubled up Agnes Scott in shot attempts, 24-11, with a strong turnover production on defense leading to extra opportunities for the Blazers. Belhaven extended the lead further in the third quarter with another 20-plus point frame cementing their full control over the game before closing out the win in the fourth.
The Blazers led wire-to-wire against Agnes Scott, leading for 39:40 of the 40 minute contest. Belhaven was led on the day by
Ebony Gayden who tallied a team-high 15 points along with five rebounds in just 15 minutes of action.
Hayle Poindexter had a strong day on both sides of the floor as well with 12 points of her own as well as eight rebounds.
Katelyn Coleman rounds out the Blazers in double figures with 12 points off the bench to pair with six rebounds and three steals.
Belhaven now sits a game over .500 for the first time this season with a 6-5 record aided by five straight wins. Belhaven will now turn their attention to LaGrange on Tuesday in the Blazers' CCS home opener. Tipoff against the Panthers is set for 2:00 PM.
