PEARL, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball Team opened up CCS play this weekend with a doubleheader split against Maryville in a Saturday slate of games.
GAME ONE
The Scots would strike first with an RBI double in the second inning that was followed up by two more runs in the third. The Blazers responded however, pouring in five runs in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of timely hits and defensive miscues from the visitors. The scoring barrage was capped off by an RBI single by
Hunter Harrell to help bring in a pair of runners.
The Blazers held control of the game through the middle innings as
Brett Sanchez remained strong on the mound for Belhaven. Sanchez pitched seven innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out seven. The Blazers added one last insurance run in the sixth with another
Hunter Harrell RBI hit and despite Maryville pulling within a run,
Kyle Norris slammed the door shut with a six-out save.

GAME TWO
Belhaven got off to the early start as
Owen Abney drove in a first inning run to put the Blazers in front. The visitors responded by scoring in three runs in the following inning and jumped outto a 3-1 lead. Maryville extended their lead over the middle innings, leading 8-1 late in the contest. Belhaven threatened, loading the bases with no outs and managed to score twice but fell 8-3 in the finale to Maryville.

The Blazers will turn their attention back to the Cowboy Maloney Series as they look to clinch the Maloney Series Trophy for a fifth straight year on Tuesday. Belhaven will travel to Millsaps with a 1-0 lead in the season series.
