JACKSON, Miss.- The Belhaven Women's Basketball team dropped their CCS matchup at home to the Covenant Scots 67-49, on Saturday.
The Blazers began quarter one with a slow start on the offensive end and fell behind 10-3 in the early minutes. However, Belhaven responded going on a 13-0 run to gain a 16-10 advantage as the quarter waned.
The second quarter was a back and forth affair at the start with both teams trading baskets. The Blazers fell behind as Covenant outscored Belhaven 19-7 in the period.
The Scots took control of the game as the third quarter began.
Ebony Gayden led the Belhaven comeback efforts with an efficient night from the charity stripe and cut the lead to 12 with less than three minutes to go in the third quarter. Belhaven cut the Covenant lead down to eleven in the early parts of the fourth quarter but the double-digit Covenant advantage proved too much to overcome.
Ebony Gayden was proficient from the line for the Blazers, as the senior forward finished with 20 points on 12-16 shooting from the line while grabbing nine rebounds.
Xhiir Burgess recorded her fifth double-double of the season as she scored 10 points and pulled down 15 rebounds on the night.
The Blazers will return to action next Saturday, February 10th, as they take on Berea in a pivotal CCS matchup. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
