DECATUR, Ga. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team finished off their 2023-24 regular season in style on Friday as they took down Agnes Scott in blowout fashion, 70-45.

The contest was a fairly close one through the opening stages with neither team able to get off to a flying start offensively. At the end of the fourth quarter, Belhaven held a 14-8 lead due in large part to an 8-0 run over the last 2:17 of the period.

The Blazers extended their lead, by a slim margin, in the second quarter when they outscored the hosts 15-14 as Hayle Poindexter hit a pair of free throws late in the half to give the Blazers a 29-22 advantage at the break.

Belhaven began to pull away in the second half with a dominant third quarter more than doubling the Blazers halftime lead. The Blazers outscored Agnes Scott 23-12 in the period, thanks in large part to a pair of made three-pointers. 

As the game entered the final stages, Belhaven continued to pull away from the Scotties, tacking on another seven points to their lead in the fourth quarter to pick up a late season win that finishes the regular season on a high note.

On the day, Ashanti Lipscomb led all scorers as she tallied a game-high 19 points to go with five rebounds. Ebony Gayden landed a double-double on the night as she poured in 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the win. Xhiir Burgess made it a pair of double-doubles in the victory with 11 points and 15 boards to go along with three steals and two blocked shots. 

Belhaven ends the regular season 7-9 in conference play, good for the sixth seed in the conference tournament. The Blazers know they will travel to, and take on, the third seed in the tournament which looks to be either Piedmont or Maryville. The opponent for Belhaven is dependent upon Piedmont's matchup against Berea tomorrow afternoon.

The Blazers will face off against the CCS third seed on Tuesday, February 20th at 7:00 PM at the host's local time.
