Belhaven Baseball Falls in Rain-Shortened Weekend Finale

CONWAY, Ark. - The Belhaven Baseball team was beaten 5-2 in five innings against Westminster College (Mo.) on Saturday in a rain-shortened weekend finale at the Hendrix Season Opener.

After a pair of narrow defeats on Friday, Belhaven looked to bounce back against Westminster on Saturday and sent new pitcher, Kade May to the mound against the Blue Jays. Belhaven and Westminster were scoreless through two innings before the Blue Jays tallied three runs on three hits and an error in the top of the third inning.

The club from Missouri made it a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning, picking up two more runs on three hits. The Blazers answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the same frame as Tristan Pearson led off the inning with a hit by pitch and Noah Foster provided a double to put two runners in scoring position.

An error and a sac fly in the next two hitters pushed across two runs and brought Belhaven back within three. The Blazers threatened in the bottom of the fifth but stranded a pair of runners and the game would go into a rain delay before the next inning got started. After a brief delay, the decision was made to call the game with the 5-2 scoreline made official.

Noah Foster led Belhaven on the day going 1-2 at the plate with a double, a walk and a run scored. He finishes the opening weekend 5-11 with three doubles, two walks and two RBI. Cole Fletcher went 1-3 in the leadoff spot for Belhaven and went 3-9 across the three game weekend.

Belhaven will look to bounce back next weekend as they travel to Abilene, Texas to face former conference foe Hardin-Simmons. The three-game series opens Friday with a doubleheader at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM with the finale set for 1:00 PM on Saturday.
