JACKSON - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team finished out their final game of the 2024 portion of their schedule with a dominant 86-53 win over Wesleyan in the Blazers' conference opener.

Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead over the first few possessions of the contest but Belhaven gained control quickly and never looked back against their CCS opposition. After their early 4-0 deficit, Belhaven went on a 15-4 scoring run that put the Blazers up through the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Belhaven blew the game open with a 23-point edge in the period outscoring Wesleyan 33-10. In the final 41 seconds of the first half, Belhaven ramped up their defensive pressure and went on a 10-1 run including multiple forced turnovers in the Wolves' backcourt.

Defensively, the Blazers were sharp in the third quarter, allowing just nine points in total to the visitors and extending their 30 point lead out to a game-high 38 points by the end of the frame.

In the win, all 13 Blazers that saw the floor also recorded points. Ebony Gayden led the way with 16 points on 6-10 shooting from the field while Veronica Williams and Chrystianna Beeman each added 10 points of their own. Shakendalah Jones added six assists and seven points in the victory while Savannah Hailey, Ramya King and Reagan Buchanan combined for 21 rebounds.

Belhaven has now won three straight with all three wins by 20 points or more. The Blazers will now have a break during the Christmas holiday before returning to action on January 3rd when they take on Wesleyan once again, this time in Georgia.
