JACKSON – The Belhaven Women's Basketball team fell 65-58 to Ozarks on Saturday afternoon at the Hangar Dome.
The Blazers got out to a quick start against the Eagles as
Savannah Hailey buried back-to-back threes to give Belhaven an early 6-1 lead.
Tra'Shaylah Wilson's three with 2:16 left in the quarter pushed the lead out to 10 before a late Ozarks bucket cut the Belhaven lead to 17-9 after one.
The Eagles flipped the script in the second quarter, outscoring the Blazers 19-7 to take a 28-24 lead into the half. Ozarks led by as many as nine in the third quarter before Belhaven went on a 14-2 run midway through the quarter to retake the lead. Ozarks grabbed a 43-42 lead after three courtesy of a basket in the waning seconds of the quarter.
The teams battled back and forth over the final 10 minutes, but a late spurt by the Eagles gave them a 59-52 advantage with two and a half minutes to play. Back-to-back baskets cut the lead to 61-58 with 37 seconds left, but Ozarks closed things out with four free throws down the stretch to pick up the victory.
Hailey paced the Blazers with 17 points, while
Ebony Gayden added 14 points and nine rebounds.
Belhaven will take on Mississippi College in an exhibition on Thursday night before hosting Millsaps on Tuesday, November 19th in the home opener. Tipoff against the Majors is set for 5:30 PM.
