LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team won their first ever Collegiate Conference of the South Championship on Saturday with a 2-0 clean sheet victory over to pseed Covenant.
In what was a rematch of the 2023 CCS Final, Belhaven and Covenant put on a battling display in the opening half with a number of scoring chances. However it was Belhaven who registered the only three shots on frame in the opening 45 minutes.
The Blazers would also get the opening goal in the first half after
Samuel Hadley volleyed a deflected corner from long range in the 34th minute. Hadley's goal would send the Blazers into the break in front 1-0 over the hosts.
After the break, Belhaven maintained control over Covenant and would get their second of the match as
Matt Smith curled a 68th minute free kick into the top corner sealing the win for the Blazers.
The win marks Belhaven's first conference championship in the program's NCAA era and first in the Collegiate Conference of the South. A storied NAIA program with two NAIA National Championships, the Blazers will now get their first opportunity in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer tournament.
Belhaven earns the CCS's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will find out their first round oppponent during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, November 11th at 12:30 PM. The opening round of the NCAA Tournament will begin on Saturday, November 16th.
