MEMPHIS - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team was downed by Rhodes on Friday night, falling 79-71 to the Lynx inside Mallory Gymnasium.
After
Jacob Reese's basket with 14:28 to go evened things up at eight, the hosts began to take control as they led by as many as 17 on several occasions in the first half. The Blazers responded with a 10-1 run to close the final three minutes but still trailed 37-29 at the half.
Back-to-back buckets extended the Rhodes lead back out to double digits, but Belhaven pulled back with seven at 43-36 with 14 and a half to play. The Lynx once again used a run to stretch the lead out to 23 with five minutes left.
The Blazers went on a 23-6 run down the stretch to trim the lead to just six, but the comeback bid fell short as Rhodes held on for a 79-71 victory.
Despite the loss, Reese finished with a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead Belhaven.
Justin Reid added 12 points while
Neal Terry totaled 11 points and four steals.
The Blazers wrap up the weekend trip to Memphis tomorrow afternoon with a 4:00 PM tipoff against Ozarks.
