JACKSON - The Belhaven Volleyball team saw their season come to a close on Tuesday night in the Quarterfinal round of the Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament with a 3-1 defeat to Huntingdon.
It was a hard fought battle against the Hawks with the Blazers nearly overcoming a two-set deficit to force a decisive fifth set. After falling 25-22 in the opening set and 25-16 in the second set, the Blazers bounced back with a 26-24 third set win in a back and forth set.Â
Looking to force a fifth set, Belhaven got off to a strong start in the fourth set. The Blazers led 10-2 early, but Huntingdon was able to close the gap. The Hawks and Blazers would stay tight late in the set and the Blazers came close to forcing a final set, but the Hawks pulled out the win with a 28-26 set victory.
Kylarr Martin led the way for Belhaven with 15 kills, a season-high for the Texas native.
Megan LaCour also finished in double digit kills with 10 while also posting nine digs. Freshman
Jade De La Torre finished the match with a career-high 31 digs in what was a stellar close to the season for the first-year Blazer.
The 2024 season was a strong one for the Blazers under first-year Head Coach
Olivia Killelea, posting 12 wins and 10 conference victories, both the high marks for the program since 2017.
