JACKSON, Miss. - Five Blazers scored in double figures as the Belhaven Men's Basketball team outpaced the visiting Piedmont Lions, 93-77, on Saturday night inside Rugg Arena. With the win, the Blazers secured a regular season sweep over the Lions after winning the first match-up two weeks ago.
It was a game of runs in the early going as the Blazers opened up with the first five points of the game, but Piedmont responded with 13 straight to take a comfortable lead early. Belhaven battled back and retook the lead at the 11:41 mark after a
Luke Couch three-pointer. The Blazers were able to create some separation thanks to a 9-0 run to go up 34-25 with five minutes left in the half.
The Blazers' offense showed no signs of slowing down as they took a 47-37 lead into the halftime break. A quick 7-0 burst by the Lions brought them within three early in the second, but Belhaven took back the momentum with a thunderous dunk from
Jermario Hersey. Back-to-back threes from Couch extended the lead out to 13 with 14:30 to go in the game.
From that point on, it was all Green and Gold. Piedmont never got the lead back within single digits as the Blazers cruised to a 93-77 victory to win their 13th contest of the season. The Blazers are now 5-3 in conference play with four league games left on the slate.
Judah Jordan led the way with 20 points and 10 assists, while
Luke Couch and
Jonathan Lucas tallied 17 points apiece.
Jordan Marshall recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.
Jermario Hersey chipped in 14 off of the bench on 4-of-5 from the floor.
The Blazers return to action Tuesday, January 30th when they battle Huntingdon in Montgomery, Alabama. Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM.
