Blazers Earn Tough Victory on the Road at Covenant

Box Score LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.- The Belhaven Men's Basketball team picked up a crucial victory over the Covenant Scots 62-57 to move to 2-1 in conference play.

The Scots gained most of the momentum in the first half and controlled the lead until halftime. The Blazers got off to a solid start after a Jonathan Lucas jumper gave them a 7-5 lead. Covenant went on to take control and not give the lead back to the Blazers for the remainder of the half as they entered into the second half with a 30-25 lead. Luke Couch led the Blazers in the first half in points with eight and was a defensive menace with four steals.

At the start of the second half, the Blazers went to war with the Scots and managed to grab their first lead since the first half as a Judah Jordan three gave Belhaven a 39-36 lead. As the half pushed forward, Belhaven continued to extend their lead and control the flow as they led 50-42 with nine minutes remaining. The Scots managed to crawl their way back into the game and tied the score at 57 with 1:18 to go. With less than a minute remaining, Jordan Marshall converted on a clutch free throw to give the Blazers a 58-57 lead. After a go ahead layup by Judah Jordan with 12 seconds to go, Belhaven sealed the deal with a great defensive possession. Luke Couch went on to extend the lead to five on a pair of free throws to deliver the Blazers a 62-57 win.

The Blazers struggled from the field shooting just 38.6% overall but dominated the Scots on the glass 34-27. Luke Couch poured in 16 points and recorded four steals on the night while Jermario Hersey continues to be a spark plug off the bench with 10 points on 50% shooting. Judah Jordan continues to be the ultimate facilitator for Belhaven as he finished with nine points and eight assists. Jacob Reese continues to be sensational as the junior forward scored nine points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Belhaven will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Piedmont on Saturday, December 13 for a highly anticipated CCS matchup. The Blazers will tip off at 3:00 PM.
