SHREVEPORT, La. - The Belhaven Volleyball team fell in both matches on Saturday as they wrapped up the final day of the Country Cajun Classic hosted by Centenary College.
Belhaven fell in straight sets to McMurry to open the day despite a late rally in the third set. After falling in the first two sets 25-18 and 25-11, Belhaven battled McMurry in the final set and fell closely 26-24.
Caitlin Torok led the way for Belhaven with seven kills on 13 total attacks while also contributing with a pair of digs.
Ellie Jones tallied five kills on the match while
Kayla Robinson led the team with six total digs.
Aniyah Tompkins' 12 assists also led the squad.
In the second match of the day, the Blazers were beaten by hosts Centenary in straight sets. Belhaven led the first set in the early going and kept the set close overall but fell 25-20. The scoreline was 25-14 in the final two sets.
Ellie Jones topped the Blazers with seven kills against the hosts while also providing a team-high three block assists.
Kayla Robinson led Belhaven with 14 digs against Centenary while
Miriam Ateca provided a team-high 13 assists.
With her performance on the weekend,
Ellie Jones was named to the All-Tournament team. Overall, Jones tallied 25 kills, six block assists and six digs.
The Blazers return to action on Thursday, September 7th when they host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Rugg Arena.
